About Trondheim

Trondheim is located within Sor-Trondelag county and is the third largest city in Norway, located on the south coast of Trondheim Fjord. The city was founded in 997 becoming the capital of Norway during the Viking Age till 1,217. Even though Trondheim is a large city, wild animals can be seen in the wetland habitats.

While your visit in Trondheim you shouldn’t miss the Kristiansten Fortress located in a hill at the east of Trondheim. In the city’s central square there is the statue of Olav Tryggvason, the founder of the city. The islet Munkholmen is also a nice place to visit. About architecture, the Nidaros Cathedral is located in the central part of the city. It used to be an important Christian pilgrimage site during the Middle Ages and also the second largest medieval cathedral in Scandinavia.
